Discovering London: My first day in the city

My nine-hour plane ride to London was far from comfortable. Crammed into a seat with barely any legroom, I sat beside a man whose snoring was unbearable, but as if the noise was not enough, he kept elbowing me every now and then, waking me from my attempts to get some sleep. In the meantime, I dove into my book The Summer I Turned Pretty to distract myself, losing myself in its pages. Then, when my eyes grew heavy, and I felt like I could pass out, I watched The Hunger Games pass the time. The familiar scenes lured me into an easy sleep, making the hours feel somewhat shorter.

Midway through the flight, the attendants served lunch. It was a toss-up between vegetarian and chicken curry, and I got the curry, which surprisingly was pretty good. Soon after, it was quiet time/ lights out, and everyone put their headphones in and went to sleep. Later, as dawn approached, breakfast was served. This served as a sign to me that we were getting closer to our destination.

Upon landing, my friends and I were eager to start our journey through London, but navigating the London train system was more challenging than we thought. It took us over two hours to figure out how to get to our dorms, going on 3 different trains and fumbling with maps and tickets while lugging around our heavy bags. When we reached our destination in Kentish Town, the skies opened up, and we were greeted by cold, pouring rain. Drenched and exhausted, we all wanted to get to our dorms, get inside, find our rooms, and finally rest. The long trip had taken its toll on us, but we were determined to start our London adventure on the right foot once we had a chance to recover from all the chaos that we had endured.

After settling into our dorms and finishing orientation, we grabbed some essentials. Stocking up on items like Dr. Pepper Pringles and other dorm necessities, we felt more at home. My roommate and I, eager to explore, headed to Primrose Hill Park to take in the stunning view of the London skyline. The view was breathtaking and felt like the perfect introduction to the city.  As soon as the evening approached, we went to the TCR Lounge Bar, where we savored delicious fish and chips. The meal was the perfect end to our first day; It left us satisfied and excited for the adventures ahead of us.

On The Edge of London

Now, less than two days away from London, I’m feeling a mix of emotions: excitement, worry, fear, sadness, and pretty much all the feelings you can feel. With all this excitement and nervousness, I can’t stop thinking about how I will explore iconic landmarks and immerse myself in British history and culture.

As the trip approaches, my excitement skyrockets just thinking about witnessing some of the city’s most iconic landmarks: the Big Bend, the tall standing Westminster Abbey, and most importantly, Platform 9 3/4, which, if you don’t know, is basically the gateway to the famous world of Harry Potter. Last but not least the legendary London Bridge, which holds the amazing view of the Thames River and of the city all around me.

I’m most excited about all the souvenirs I will bring home for my family and friends. It’s so cute and special to find the perfect memento to remind them of my adventures. I can’t resist getting souvenirs; no matter where I go, I must bring something to remind me of my trip. They serve as reminders of all the memories I’ve made of my travels, each holding its own sentimental value.

With all the excitement, I eagerly can’t wait to enter the city. From all the iconic landmarks to the cute souvenirs, each little detail will give me memories that I will hold close to me for a lifetime. As the countdown nears its end, I am grateful that I got this opportunity to discover this historic city. London will leave a mark on me, and I can’t wait for the journey ahead.

Countdown to London: Less Than a Week Away!

There is just a week until my London trip, and I can hardly wait. Imagining my two weeks there fills me with excitement. Soon, I’ll be exploring the city and soaking in its culture. Reading about London and planning my trip has taken over my thoughts. I’m so eager for the adventures ahead!

This marks my first flight, and it’s to a whole new continent! Although it’s a bit nerve-wracking, I’m confident it’ll be a manageable experience. Securing the window seat has relieved one concern. However, my focus isn’t solely on the flight itself. I’m more preoccupied with how I’ll navigate the airport and what to expect upon arrival.

Once I touch down in London, the next challenge awaits: finding my way to where I need to be. I’ve heard that cabs and Ubers in London can really drain your wallet, so I’m looking for alternatives. Luckily, a friend suggested using Citymapper, and I feel it will be a lifesaver. With Citymapper, I’ll be able to easily navigate the tube system and find alternative transport options like buses and Ubers all over the city. It seems like Citymapper will be my new best friend when it comes to getting around London efficiently.

As the days go by, my excitement for my London trip grows stronger and stronger I can’t wait to explore the city, soaking up the history and culture. But waiting is so hard! I’m eager for the countdown to speed up so I can finally begin this adventure.

Study Abroad Readiness: Essential steps for a smooth journey

Getting ready for my first trip abroad, particularly for my upcoming study abroad program in London, feels like a discouraging task. It’s really not as simple as booking a flight and throwing some clothes into a suitcase. This isn’t some quick road trip for a few hours. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about how to get myself physically and mentally ready for this new adventure of mine. My main focus is ensuring I stay safe and care for myself while exploring a foreign country for the first time.

Getting ready for my upcoming trip feels like solving a puzzle- there are many things to figure out! With London’s unpredictable weather and the endless walking I will be doing, packing is no joke. Do I have a jacket in case it rains? Umbrella? Clothes that I can layer? Don’t get me started on finding the perfect pair of comfy shoes!

In the summer, the weather in the UK is a big change from the heat of Texas. While Texas has intense heat waves, the UK has a cooler and more temperate climate. It’s still warm enough to wear some spring or summer outfits but without the heat that Texas is known for. It’s a relief, allowing me to do more comfortable outdoor activities and leisurely strolls without constantly trying to find shade or air conditioning.

I’ve gone the extra mile by researching nearby stores in the area that offer pharmaceuticals and toiletries, just in case I need to pick up something I forgot to pack. It’s a proactive measure to ensure I can access any necessities during my trip, providing peace of mind and knowing that I’ll be prepared for whatever comes my way. Along with stocking up on pain medication and packing essential toiletries, this preparation adds a layer of security to my travel plans. And with the help of packing lists, I’m confident I’ll have everything I need for a successful and stress-free journey.

So, as my London trip gets closer, I can say I feel good and confident knowing I’ve planned everything well. I’ve considered staying safe and going over all the possibilities just in case anything goes wrong. I also feel okay in knowing I’ll have a friend with me and my peers also knowing where to get help if we need it.

Swiftly exploring London

Since I learned about my upcoming trip to London, I’ve been busy getting a list of Taylor Swift locations I want to visit there. I used social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram, which have been useful in helping me plan the perfect itinerary. I’ve been scrolling through TikTok videos and Instagram posts, constantly seeing some Swifties share their experiences and insights about Taylor Swift-related spots in London.

I’ve listed Taylor Swift’s favorite restaurant, Nandos, which is rumored to be where Ed Sheeran introduced her.  I discovered The Black Dog, a little restaurant/bar, but it’s the song’s title on Taylor Swift’s new album. I can’t wait to capture some cute photos there. I also found filming spots in London through countless hours of scrolling on the web and social media. I’ve spotted places from her music videos, from the cozy cafes to trendy locations she loves.

When listening to Taylors’ music, I came upon a list of places mentioned in Taylor Swift’s song “London Boy,” I was intrigued to discover how they formed a heart shape around London. With each location representing a lyric from the song, I plotted them on a map and was amazed to see the outline resembling a heart. I connected the dots from Camden Market to Shoreditch and more; these spots paint a picture of love and adventure in the city that Taylor experienced when she was there.

With the new list of Taylor Swift sites in London, I’m super excited and eager for my journey ahead. I can’t wait to embark on my own little journey that intertwines with her. I’m ready to see Taylors’ Version of London.
